A comprehensive set of algorithms to identify jets originating from b-quarks has been developed within the CMS Collaboration. The fundamental properties of B-hadrons leading to observables which can be exploited for b-tagging are discussed and an overview of the basic concepts of the algorithms is given, followed by a comparison of their performance.

We present here a study of the transverse granularity required for tagging jets detection and reconstruction over the expected pileup background, in the CMS Quartz Fibres Forward Calorimeters, HF. Background suppression and jet finding are achieved by an eta independent Et cut on single towers. Granularities in terms of Delta(x), Delta(y) towers are considered.
